What is Florence but wall to wall fresco, wall to wall special. As I head down south to Rome favorite haunts demand attention and I'm most happy to oblige, at the top of the list sits the Uffizi Gallery.
With this pic the artists depicts the Duke and his Duchess au naturale; their skin, warts, even nose-jobs on display. The most powerful of Dukes, of Milan, Venice, Verona...this museum finds humanity and all its skin unfolding, naturally, powerfully...
The first gallery begins with Byzantine art circa 13th century, clinging dearly to one dimensional art, religious, gilded, with relief we wander further and further past medieval worlds, witnessing art, evolving into relatable images, leaving sin and fetish symbols in their wake as artists feel free to draw the skies, so blue, heavenly on earth as we viewers literally imbibe the fresh air.
